Slimming World’s annual Clothes Throw saw the pavement outside the Cancer Research shop in Ashton literally covered with masses of donations from across the region. Each year members are asked to collect all the clothes that no longer fit them due to their weight loss and pop them into a bag to donate to cancer research.Last year Tameside Slimming World members successfully took part, but this year they have
almost doubled their donations. Each bag is worth between £25 and £30 and the Tameside groups donated a massive 686 bags in total, with the approximate value of £17,000.

The bags were donated to the Cancer Research shops in Ashton and Stalybridge.

Local consultant for Ashton, Cath Shipley, said: “It is partly to do with more members and partly with more weight loss.

“The groups are growing because it is the most generous eating plan that you’re going to find.

“It’s a great feeling the fact you can get into a smaller size.

“There is nothing that feels more wonderful than that and the old clothes being so loose that they hang off.

“There really is nothing better than that.”

There are groups almost every day of the week around Tameside and they are continuously raising money for projects and charities over the year.

This Sunday some members will be running the Race for Life in Stockport.
