The Ting Tings – That’s Not My Name
Sunday 15th June 2014 @ 23:11 by Charlotte

Confused about their names is this band from Wigan & West Ham based in Salford. Katie White and Jules De Martino – I know their names; I should tell them – met each other while Jules was in Manchester and they discovered they both had a love of Portishead. Jules soon after moved into Islington Mill in Salford from West Ham, London and started work on other projects. It wasn’t until later that the pair then started to develop a sound and they named themselves The Ting Tings after a colleague of Katie – who’s called Ting Ting – said that ‘Ting Ting’ sounded like the pronunciation of ‘bandstand’ in Mandarin. They both researched ‘Ting Ting’ – not Katie’s friend – and found that it also means “sound of innovation on an open mind”. Hear this, more by The Ting Tings and other songs you thought you’d forgotten, on your best music mix Tameside Radio! It only seemed like yesterday when this was chart-topping…it was 6 years ago!
