What’s on World Mental Health Week events in Tameside

World Mental Health Week takes place at the start of this month, and Tameside Council will be joining partners such as the Anthony Seddon Fund and TOGMind to raise awareness of what can be done to allow people with mental health problems to live with dignity.

Mental health problems are very widespread and when sufferers are treated without the necessary dignity it becomes more difficult to ensure other seek help. This can lead to self-stigma, low confidence, low self-esteem, withdrawal and social isolation.

Cllr Brenda Warrington, Tameside Council’s executive member for adult care and wellbeing, said: “Something like a quarter of the British population will experience a mental health problem in any year.

“Unfortunately a lot of people still see mental health problems as a stigma, which is entirely wrong. Through events such as those organised for Mental Health Week we can start to break down the barriers so that people get the necessary help and support.”
