Work of art for The Mayor
Tuesday 12th July 2016 @ 09:55 by Nigel Skinner

A piece of work celebrating the creativity of pupils from Tameside’s Arts hub is to go on proud display in the mayoral parlour at Dukinfield Town Hall.

Tameside Council Cultural Services worked with special schools – Thomas Ashton, Oakdale, Cromwell, Samuel Laycock and Hawthorns – on the vibrant ‘Retreat to the Exhibition’ arts project, which was themed on Her Majesty The Queen’s 90th birthday.

Civic Mayor Cllr Philip Fitzpatrick helped to organise their exhibition at Hyde Town Hall and was so impressed that he invited pupils, representing each of the five schools, to the mayor’s parlour on Monday to congratulate them on the project.

The mayor was delighted when the children presented him with a piece of commemorative artwork to hang in the parlour.

He said: “Anyone who visited the exhibition couldn’t help but be blown away by the pupils’ clear talent, creativity and enthusiasm and it is a real honour to receive a piece of artwork for the mayor’s parlour celebrating the success of the project.

“It was a pleasure to welcome the children the mayor’s parlour, we had a fantastic time and the pupils went home with a small gift as a memento of their visit.”
