Thousands of people across Glossopdale and Longdendale have been left frustrated after being cut off from the outside world for more than a day.

It is understood around 5,000 Sky customers – in Glossop and Mottram in particular – have been without broadband and unable to make or receive calls since Monday night of what engineers describe as a ‘fibre break’.

The fault has been traced to a manhole which has been covered and required a road closure, which led to a delay in fixing the problem.

But engineers have re-routed the fibre for the connections to both Glossop and Mottram and reported at around 4:15pm on Wednesday that the issue has now been resolved.

The company apologised for the inconvenience caused and said engineers had been working tirelessly to rectify the problem.

Many locals on social media said they were reconnected at around 3pm on Wednesday afternoon.

But some angry customers say they will seek compensation after being unable to work from home with no internet access.
