Two Glossopdale councillors have expressed their disappointment at the opening times of pharmacies in the town over the Christmas period.

The concerns of Cllrs Damien Greenhalgh and Anthony Mckeown come as NHS Tameside and Glossop Clinical Commissioning Group confirm no pharmacy will be open in Glossop on Christmas Day or Boxing Day.

Cllr Greenhalgh told the Chronicle: “It’s disappointing to once again see no pharmacies open in Glossopdale, with its significant population of 35,000+, on Christmas Day or Boxing Day.

“There’s a real issue of access with no public transport over these days to even get to the ones over the border in Hyde and Ashton that will be open.

“This is even more concerning given all the messages coming from health professionals asking people to visit pharmacists before NHS walk-ins, GP surgeries and A&E due to the pressures they’re facing.”

Cllr Mckeown added: “Whilst it’s welcome to see a number of pharmacies open on Christmas Day and Boxing Day across Tameside, it’s disappointing to see none open once again anywhere in Glossopdale.”

Boots on Station Road in Hadfield will be open 10am to 2pm on December 27 and Boots on High Street West will be open from 10am to 4pm on the same day.

Meanwhile, Tesco Glossop pharmacy will be open from 9am to 6pm on December 27 and January 2, which are both Bank Holidays but the doors of other pharmacies will stay closed.
