Thirteen key local organisations and groups have been meeting every other month for over a year to offer advice and support for the Crescent and Pump Room development.

The Crescent and Pump Room Stakeholder Consultation Group includes key representatives from the Buxton Crescent and Thermal Spa Heritage Trust, Buxton Crescent and Thermal Spa, High Peak Borough Council and HLF.

It is also attended by key contacts from Devonshire Campus, Chatsworth, Buxton Museum, Buxton Opera House, Poole’s Cavern and the Civic Association, Pavilion Gardens, Buxton Town Team, Vision Buxton, Buxton Festival, Discover Buxton Tours, Marketing Peak District and the Buxton and District U3A.

The group are helping to develop ideas and plans related to the Pump Room, experience, events programme, Friends of the Crescent, volunteer programme and oral history project.

James Berresford, Chair of the Buxton Crescent and Thermal Spa Heritage Trust, commented: “The stakeholder group is a key forum that allows the evolving visitor attraction aspect of the Buxton Crescent Development to take account of local interests.

“It is vital that whatever shape the attraction eventually takes, it complements the activities of all other local attractions.”

Councillor Tony Kemp, Deputy Leader and Executive Councillor for Regeneration at High Peak Borough Council, said: “The regeneration of this iconic building comes from the heart of the Buxton community but it is also our ambition for it to be a catalyst bringing a step-change in the growth of tourism and other economic benefits across the whole of the High Peak and Derbyshire.

“The active involvement and support of local individuals and organisations will be crucial to our success, and the Stakeholder group has a vital role to play in ensuring the Crescent fulfils its potential to become a national and regional asset working in partnership with the many attractions and activities already on offer in Derbyshire and the Peak District.

“By all working together we can deliver a massive boost to the local and regional economies.”
