Glossop North End are through to the third round of the Integro Doodson League Cup after beating Leek Town on penalties after a 2-2 draw on Tuesday night.

On a very wet pitch in Staffordshire, the Hillmen fell behind to the Evo-Stik First Division South side in the 24th minute when captain Niall Maguire bundled home from a corner.

Max Leonard drew Glossop level seven minutes before half-time with a stunning free-kick for his 15th goal of the season.

Leek regained the lead in the 56th minute through Aaron Bott, who tapped home after a Jordan Johnson shot was saved by Glossop keeper Matthew Cooper.

After defender Simon Woodford was sent off for a second bookable offence, Mike Norton scored via a deflection in the fourth minute of stoppage time to rescue Glossop.

And, following two fine saves from Cooper, substitute Ben Richardson scored the winning spotkick as Chris Willcock’s side prevailed 4-2 on penalties and will face Bamber Bridge – who are also their next opponents in the league on Saturday – in the next round on Tuesday, February 14.
