Hadfield Help for Heroes organiser Larry Walton was all smiles when he was presented with a cheque for the charity.

Larry got involved in fundraising when his nephew was killed by an IED in Afghanistan.

He was no doubt thinking of Welsh Guardsman Dane Elson when he picked up a cheque of £1,085 for the charity on Sunday.

Larry organised a concert at Hadfield Conservative Club where he is secretary and raised £435.

But, before the first act took to the stafe, he was presented with a cheque for £650 by Ian Roberts from the North East Cheshire branch of the Royal Ancient Order of the Buffaloes.

“Ours if the Buffs’ charity of the year and I would like to thank them and everyone else who supported us,” said Larry.

“We also had £100 from a collecting can we have in the club.”

Larry added: “I first became interested when my nephew was caught by an improvised explosive device while on patrol in Afghanistan in 2009.”
