Glossop North End have stepped up their preparations for the 2017/18 season with the announcement of three pre-season friendlies.

The Hillmen will begin training in July under joint-managers Paul Phillips and Steve Halford – the former Ashton United and Stalybridge Celtic duo who were appointed to replace Chris Willcock last week.

Their first game under the new regime will be a short trip to the Silverlands Stadium to face local rivals Buxton FC, of the Evo-Stik Premier Division, to compete for the High Peak Cup on Saturday, July 22.

Glossop will then travel to Manchester to take on North West Counties Football League Premier Division outfit Abbey Hey FC on Tuesday, July 25.

A busy week concludes with a third game as the Hillmen renew acquaintances with 1874 Northwich – a fan-owned club from Winsford who also preside in the North West Counties Football League Premier Division – on Saturday, July 29.

These are the only confirmed matches so far but the club say they will reveal more in due course.

The Hillmen finished eighth in the Evo-Stik First Division North last term, missing out on the play-offs by three points.

But, as they embark on a new era under the experienced pair of Phillips and Halford, they will be hoping to go one better next season and succeed where they have failed in the last two seasons by reaching the Evo-Stik Premier Division, the eighth tier of English football.
