A group of amazing women from Tintwistle hiked more than 27 miles to raise an incredible £5,000 for Macmillan.

They then celebrated one of the most exhausting days of their lives with drinks and chips at the village pub.

Vicky Mullis, who was involved in the walk, said: “We walked this marathon in honour of loved ones. With fathers, mothers and friends all taking part.

“It took 11 hours to walk from Ashbourne to Buxton. Up and down hills, through fields, over stiles, across a ravine and finishing at Pavilion Gardens in Buxton.

“We vow never to do it again – the next fundraiser will involve an activity that includes sitting down!”

She said a friend came up with the idea of taking part in the Macmillan organised event as her mother died of cancer a few years ago.

The walk actually happened to be on her mother’s birthday and she wore her mum’s trainers to do the walk.

Vicky added: “We got talking about doing the event and a whole group of women got involved. We trained together in the evenings and weekends, so that we would all be fit enough to complete the event.

“The people in the village have been very supportive. The pub did celebratory drinks and chips for us afterwards and lots of locals sponsored our endeavour.”
