Glossop North End have been knocked out of the Derbyshire Senior Cup at the third-round stage after a 4-2 defeat on penalties at the hands of Ilkeston Town FC on Tuesday night.

It followed a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes, with both goals coming in the first half of an entertaining game at Surrey Street.

Montel Gibson fired the visitors in front midway through the first period with a shot which crept under the body of Hillmen stopper Paul Phillips.

But the lead lasted just three minutes as Jude Oyibo scored a Goal of the Season contender to bring Glossop level, picking up the ball around 35 yards from goal, running at the Ilkeston defence before sliding a fine finish past goalkeeper Ian Deakin.

Ilkeston held their own against Glossop, who are two divisions higher, in a second half of few clear-cut chances as the game went straight to penalties.

Courtney Meppen-Walter and Lee Rick both netted for the Hillmen but misses from Gary Gee and Lewis Lacy proved costly as Ilkeston scored four of their five spotkicks and progress to the quarter-finals of the competition.
