Last dance at old school

Anything from flares to the latest  hi-fashion is likely to be on show at a dance in Glossop where the demand for tickets will be red hot.

A group called ‘The Last Dance at Glossopdale School’ is marking the closure of the current twin-campus college with an ‘old style school disco.’

It is planned for sometime over the last weekend in June, shortly before the Talbot Road site and the old buildings on the Newshaw Lane site close for good.

When September comes, 1,300 students will move into the brand new £21m Glossopdale School on Newshaw Lane.

Tickets for the gig, in Hall One at Talbot Road, are expected to be in huge demand.

The invite is to past students of Glossopdale School, College and Glossop Comprehensive and Glossop School, which occupied the site before. These date back the 1970s.

The only stipulation is that ticket holders to the event must be at least 18 years old.

A piece on social media said: “It’s a chance to say a fond farewell before the move to a new school and to celebrate the memories made at the Talbot Road site.”

The Last Dance at Glossopdale School team is looking for volunteers to help organise and plan what it describes as a ‘spectacular send off’.

Also needed are photographs of school days from the 70s onwards.
