Hadfield’s Carmel Church launched its free monthly community meal programme on Wednesday and nobody went home hungry.

Janice Cowling, who helped organise the evening meal, said: “Forty-three people came along and enjoyed a tasty two-course dinner, in a relaxed and friendly environment.

“Much of the food served was donated by Hadfield Coming Together and Fareshare, with delicious bread generously supplied by Grains Bakehouse.

“It was lovingly prepared by professional chef, Ali, and her team of enthusiastic volunteers.”

She added: “The aim of this initiative is to provide a hearty meal and also an opportunity for people to meet and eat together.”

The community meal scheme takes place on the last Wednesday of every month at 5.30pm.

The meals are free and everyone’s invited.

Carmel Church on Station Road works closely with Hadfield Coming Together, who hold a weekly food distribution service at the church each Thursday from 1pm to 2pm,  offering food from Tesco, Greggs and Fareshare for a suggested £1 donation.
