Water howler for hound dog Elvis

Border Collie Elvis was ‘All Shook Up’ when he went to his bowl for a drink.

When owner Pat Ellison Read and husband John turned on the tap they realised why.

“There was what looked like scum on top of the water and it tasted vile,” said Pat.

“At times it tasted like bleach. Even the dog wouldn’t drink it.”

The couple called water company United Utilities who sent an inspector to the family’s home in Glossop Road, Gamesley, to run tests.

Pat said: “He took a drink and pulled his face and said there was too much chlorine in it.

“He took samples and said he would get back in touch.”

United Utilities however maintained there was nothing wrong with the water when we put the complaint to them.

A spokesman said: “We attended a property on Glossop Road, Gamesley on Wednesday to reports of a bad taste of tap water.

“Our early investigations show there was not an excessive amount of chlorine found and the water was wholesome and fit for use.”

Pensioner Pat disagreed saying: “It’s so different than the water from Longdendale when I lived in Hollingworth….that really was sweet.”

So it’s still bottled water for Pat, John and their eight-year-old pet.

After all Elvis is used to the good life and he’s nothing like a hound dog.

But if things don’t change he might even have to book into a heartbreak hotel.
