On Saturday, Tintwistle Athletic 1st travelled to  Bolton Lads and Girls Club in a top-of-the-table encounter.

Despite sitting below Bolton in the league Tintwistle have several games in hand and weren’t going to let it stop them taking the opportunity to close the gap on their hosts. It didn’t take long for Tinny to state their intentions for the afternoon as Tom Burns fired them into an early lead with a lovely free kick. Shortly after Burns was able to notch his second and give Tinny a 2-0 halftime lead as he capitalised on a goalkeeping error to clinically slot home from the edge of the box. Tinny extended their lead in the second half from a corner when Aidan Waddock rose highest to glance home and the hard-working team performance was topped off when Tom Burns fired home to complete his hat-trick and seal the 4-0 victory.

Tintwistle Athletic Reserves just couldn’t get into the game away to Heywood St James.

The two teams were evenly matched in the first half with no goals scored. Tintwistle started the second half slowly and were 3-0 down within 20 minutes, manager Mike Lowe had no substitutes to make other than himself with 15 minutes to go. Within minutes Tintwistle had pulled a goal back through Jake Knowles and then manager Lowe rolled back the years by scoring Tintwistle’s second from a mistake by the keeper. Despite their best efforts in the final five minutes, Tintwistle were unable to notch a third and left the ground empty handed.
