Courtney Meppen-Walter continued his fine form with another goal at Scarborough Athletic last night – thought it wasn’t enough as the Hillmen suffered a 2-1 defeat on the east coast.

Scarborough, who have been promoted to the Evo-Stik Premier Division, took the lead in the 27th minute through Michael Coulson before James Walshaw notched with 12 minutes left to doubled the advantage.

Glossop did pull one back in the dying stages through Meppen-Walter, but it wasn’t enough as Scarborough held out to inflict a fourth consecutive defeat on Mark Canning’s side.

After a promising start to the season which promised so much, the departure of joint-managers Paul Phillips and Steve Halford, who joined Buxton in March, marked a downturn in fortune for Glossop.

They have since struggled to rediscover a winning formula and have won just twice in the past ten games.

Canning’s side, who sit 11th in the table, welcome 15th placed Ramsbottom United to Surrey Street on Saturday for the final game of the season.
