Two women who died in a crash on the A628 Woodhead Pass at the weekend have been named.

The tragedy happened at around 1:30pm on Saturday 15 December when a white Fiat 500 and a blue Mini Cooper collided near Dunford Bridge.

The women were named yesterday as Phillipa Bertram, 20, from Darlington and Rebecca Ward, 22, from Worcester. Both were students studying at Nottingham Trent University.

Both families have paid tributes to their daughters. Philippa Bertram’s family called her their world, saying: “Our precious daughter Philippa has been suddenly taken from us. She was our world and our joy and we were so proud of her, but our lives have been shattered by what has happened.”

Rebecca Wards family said: “Becky was a beautiful girl both inside and out who enjoyed life to the full. She was in her final year at Nottingham Trent University. Becky will be greatly missed by her family, boyfriend and many friends.”

South Yorkshire Police say another woman passenger in the Fiat 500 also suffered serious injuries. The man driving the Mini Cooper and a woman who was a passenger in the car, suffered minor injuries.

Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dash-cam footage to contact them on 101 quoting incident number 431 of December 15, 2018.
