John Edwards and his partner Gillian are planning a spot of globetrotting after he won £30,000 on the People’s Postcode Lottery.

John, 49, from Glossop, scooped the star prize when his postcode, SK13 6JB, was announced as a winner on Sunday.

The surveyor for a flooring contractor, who was with Gillian when he received the good news, said: “This is so exciting and definitely calls for a few celebratory drinks in our local tonight.

“I’m in a bit of a dilemma about how I’ll spend it, but it’s my 50th birthday this year and I’ve always wanted to visit Japan so I think I’ll treat myself to a special birthday trip there.

“I’ve got two brothers who live in Australia that I haven’t seen for over three years, so it would also be a good sort of halfway point for us to meet up at too.”

John received the cheque from People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador Danyl Johnson.

The globetrotting plans don’t stop there, as John added: “Myself and Gillian have a Volkswagen campervan and would love to do a tour across Europe, starting in France with a visit to Gillian’s brother who currently lives there. It’s going to be a great 2019.”

People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador Danyl Johnson was in Glossop to present John with his cheque.

He said: “What a brilliant start to the new year for John and Gillian – it sounds like he’s going to be able to have a really special year in 2019 now.

“With Christmas over, it’s an amazing feeling to still be spreading lots of joy in our red jackets to lucky winners like John.”

John was the only person playing with the winning postcode, but had there been any other players then they too would have won £30,000.

Many local charities have received support from players, including Glossop Arts Project, which was awarded £1,020 last year to offer more free sessions to people who are socially isolated through illness or poor mental health.
